How to Count the Carbs in ExtendShakes

  If you are counting your carbs – whether it’s to help you manage your meal plan or determine if an adjustment to your insulin is appropriate – count only the carbohydrates in ExtendShakes that have a short-term impact on blood sugar.  These carbohydrates are referred to as “faster-acting” or “net carbs”.  The remaining carbohydrates, “slower acting”, convert slowly to blood sugar and therefore, have minimal impact on blood sugar.  

  According to clinically conducted continuous glucose monitoring, only 2 of the 12 total grams of carbohydrate in ExtendShakes have a short-term impact on blood sugar.  Fiber and uncooked cornstarch convert slowly and have minimal impact on blood sugar.
